Kurnai College convened for its annual athletics carnival Thursday March 22 2018. While typical Gippsland weather greeted us with a cold and windy morning, the clouds broke away to leave fantastic sunshine, and perfect temperature for students to compete.
The fancy costumes and flair of the swimming carnival was left behind, making way for some fierce races on the track.
Rivalries between competitors grew as the day wore on, leading to participants taking real pride in their achievements while achieving fantastic results.
While the scheduling of VCE Unit ¾ classes affected the number of attendees, it did not diminish the competiveness and spirit of the day. Participation rates were up on previous carnivals, with upwards of 15 participants signing up for field events in many age groups, a target we would dearly like to continue to increase in future years.
Congratulations to all participants on their fantastic efforts on the track. Your enthusiasm and attitude on the makes all the hard work that a lot of staff put into planning well worth it.
I would like to thank and commend all attending staff for their enthusiasm and encouragement of all participants, it is through your hard work and dedication that these fantastic days are possible.
Finally, special thanks goes to Nadia Smith, who began planning for this day over 12 months ago! We look forward to seeing all students back next year, to make the event bigger and more successful than ever!
