GRoR: Guided Instruction Strategies

Guided Instruction

Guided instruction is temporary, flexible and responsive. It is where the cognitive load begins to shift from the TEACHER to the STUDENT.

During Guided Instruction, teachers:

  • prompt student thinking
  • allow students to guide one another
  • use strategic cues to guide student thinking
  • use questioning techniques to guide student thinking

Teacher reverts back to Focused Instruction if direct explanation is still needed.
