Guided instruction is temporary, flexible and responsive. It is where the cognitive load begins to shift from the TEACHER to the STUDENT.
During Guided Instruction, teachers:
- prompt student thinking
- allow students to guide one another
- use strategic cues to guide student thinking
- use questioning techniques to guide student thinking
Teacher reverts back to Focused Instruction if direct explanation is still needed.
