VCE Physical Education (PE)

VCE Physical Education (PE)

We offer Units 1-4 VCE PE, combining theory with practical based content and training, in order for our students to have multiple exposures to course content. Theory is delivered through multimodal learning, with the use of technology such as Edrolo and digital learning a priority. We provide students with the opportunity to participate in scientific learning, with Term 2 2018 seeing VO2 Max testing coming directly into our classrooms at no extra cost to our students.

VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies

At a VCE level Kurnai College offers a full VCE Outdoor and Environmental Studies program. The program provides students with the skills and knowledge to safely participate in activities in outdoor environments and to respect and value diverse environments. The blend of direct practical experience of outdoor environments with more theoretical ways, enables informed understanding of human relationships with nature.

Outdoor and Environmental Studies offers students a range of pathways and caters to those who wish to pursue further formal study in areas where interaction with outdoor environments is central, such as natural resource management, nature-based tourism, outdoor leading and guiding, environmental research and policy, education and agriculture.

This course combines skills developed in the classroom and those learned through practical experiences on outdoor field expeditions. Some of the outdoor experiences that students may be expected to participate in include:

  • Surfing
  • Kayaking
  • Snorkelling
  • Bushwalking
  • White water rafting
  • Horse riding
  • Cross country skiing
  • Alpine skiing and snowboarding
  • Mountain bike riding
  • Indoor and outdoor rock climbing

VCE Health and Human Development

Health and Human Development helps young people to understand themselves, how the human body develops, the science behind achieving optimal health throughout the lifespan and the dimensions that shape life in Australia and around the globe.
In Units 1 and 2 Kurnai College students are provided with an opportunity to apply their understanding of Youth Health and Development in a practical context, while they participate in the Virtual Baby program, giving insight to life as a parent of an infant.
Year 12 studies take on a global perspective. The health and development of Australia is compared to other nations, health promotion strategies and systems used by governments around the world to combat literacy, poverty, hunger, malaria and HIV/Aids are assessed for their impact on human development and sustainability.
